Exercise slows bone loss caused by osteoporosis. Bone loss can lead to bone fractures and ongoing or chronic pain.
Weight bearing exercises are the best form of exercise to slow bone loss.
Weight bearing exercises include:
- walking
- jogging
- cycling
- dancing
- weight training

Regular exercise of
30 minutes daily helps slow down bone loss. An added benefit of exercise is increased balance, coordination and strength, which may help in
preventing falls.
Start your exercise slowly and gradually build up the amount you do. Remember to add variety to your exercise routine to keep it interesting. Go for a walk with a friend or neighbour, or take your dog for a walk in the park. Take different routes when walking, jogging or cycling. If you find yourself getting bored with your current exercise, try something completely new.
